Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 24/7 EZ Watch Engine Monitor Do?
The 24/7 EZ Watch is a data recorder with a relay for activating alarms, shutdowns, etc. Its primary function is to collect pertinent engine operation data helpful in reducing overall maintenance expenses.
(Back to questions)

What data does it provide?
It provides a comprehensive data file with information from key engine and transmission sensors. This data is recorded from every sensor every five seconds and stored in a flash memory file.

My engine maintenance expenses are too high. How does this assist?
There can be many reasons these expenses, of which we can only address two. The first is personnel. Regardless of how well you think your personnel is managing your fleet, it is likely that they are not operating the engines according to factory specifications. There is absolutely no other system on the market, in this price range, than can provide such comprehensive data on your engine’s operation. Assign the 24/7 EZ Watch to your engine assets and see if you begin to obtain better results. If you do, then there is a very good chance that your problems were personnel related.

The other could be the quality of the engine repairs being performed. Whether you rebuild engines in-house or subcontract them out, it is possible that there is no neglect in daily operations, and you still are not getting the engine life that you should. The 24/7 EZ Watch will allow you to provide proof of proper operation and that the problem therefore must be in the quality of parts and/or workmanship.
(Back to questions)

Can I use this information to reduce my repair expenses?
Yes, it is one of its main functions. If you ever felt like you have been charged for work that was done improperly the first time, the 24/7 EZ Watch now provides the ammunition you need to avoid these expenses in the future. It will probably pay for itself the first time you are able to avoid a bill by providing your vendor with data showing that the engine/transmission has been operated according to factory specifications. In such situation, the most likely culprit is the quality of parts used in the repair and/ or the workmanship itself.
(Back to questions)

How does it assist with preventative maintenance?
One of the engine monitor’s most powerful functions is a Summary page that appears on the software’s main page. In seconds, you will see any major wear trends and can address them BEFORE a catastrophic failure occurs. For more in- depth review, use the software’s powerful filtering tools to evaluated changes in engine performance over an extended amount of time. Why perform routine expensive maintenance on an engine such as overheads, in-frame and overhauls if the historical data shows that your engine is just as healthy as it was a 5.000 hours ago?

How do I purchase a 24/7 EZ Watch?
The easiest way to is to simply contact us for a complete quotation. Should you decide to purchase, you can choose to lease the unit over an extended amount of time. Our goal is to make buying the 24/7 EZ Watch as simple as using the unit is.
(Back to questions)

Can this unit assist with insurance claims?
Yes, in many cases it will provide the surveyor with all of the information they need to effectively analyze your failure and provide their report to your insurance company.
(Back to questions)

Where do I mount the unit?
The small, compact unit can be mounted almost anywhere, including directly on the engine.
(Back to questions)

How often do I have to download data?
The customer is not required to download the data in any set intervals. Because the monitor overwrites the oldest data with the newest, you will always receive the latest 30 days of run-time data, regardless of how often you download the file. Please note that if you would like to maintain a single continuous database on your engine, the data must be downloaded every 30 days and/or 700 hours of operation.
(Back to questions)

How do I set the operational parameters?
It is incredibly easy to do. You simply complete form on the “Configuration” page of the EZ View software program, and upload the settings into the unit. You may designate high and low parameters and even decide which sensors that will energize the relay. These may be changed at any time in this same fashion.
(Back to questions)

Does it have an alarm and/or shutdown function?
No, we do not provide alarming or shutdown hardware with the unit. It does possess a relay that will energize whenever a designated (alarm) event occurs. This is done during the initial configuration of the unit but may be changed at any point in time..
(Back to questions)

Can the unit be sabotaged?
It would be very difficult. The data is instantly stored in internal, non-volatile flash memory. If power is lost to the unit, it still maintains the data file. The only way to lose the data is to physically destroy the internal storage device.

How does the Fuel Mag work?
The Fuel Mag produces a magnetic field where algae and other live microorganisms (fuel bugs) are unable to function normally. This reduces the size of the algae to its natural size of approximately one micron and prevents the natural “clinging” effect that produces clumps and mats in your fuel. Because the mass majority of fuel filters are in the 3-7 micron range, the microorganism passes through the fuel filter and is either burned in the combustion chamber or returned to the fuel tank through the return line.
(Back to questions)

What are the results of using the Fuel Mag?
This may vary depending on the severity of your problem. Every user will see a reduction in fuel filter usage. If your fuel bug problem has caused injector problems in the past, these should be drastically reduced as well. We cannot say that you will no longer have injector problems, as there are simply too many variables that can cause this. We can say with confidence though that any injector problems will not be caused by clumps of fuel bug fouling injector screens or tips.

In many cases, customers are reporting less smoke and improved fuel efficiency. Remember that ALL diesel fuel contains microorganisms and that the Fuel Mag simply breaks them down to their natural size. The lack of any clumping produces a more efficient burn in the combustion chamber. Because smoke is caused by unburned material, less smoke and improved fuel efficiency is only natural if these problems have existed in the past.

This sounds like black magic to me. How do I know it works?
Actually, it is the farthest away from “black magic” of all the potential “cures” to this terrible problem. It is Mother Nature at work. The manufacturer retained the School of Ocean Sciences in the University of Wales at Anglesey, UK to conduct an experiment to prove the effectiveness of Fuel Mag. The methodology of the test was devised by The School of Ocean Sciences in conjunction with Lloyds Register of Shipping Type Approval Department of Engineering Services, Reference TA/40397/67488/94REL. The results were so impressive that the University submitted them to the leading journal in the field of biological contamination for publication. The article was accepted and was published in Volume 14(3) 1999 of BIOFOULING. For additional details on this study, please see its scientific results.

(Back to questions)

What happens if I try it and it does not work?
This is impossible. As we said, it is Mother Nature at work. It does not choose to work for some people and not others. If you do not see a change in fuel filter usage, then fuel bugs were not the problem in the first place. Do not consider this a bad thing as you have now eliminated one variable in your troubleshooting process. Although most companies first try the Fuel Mag because they have a fuel bug problem, they continue to use them because the Fuel Mag acts as insurance against bad fuel and the natural build up of fuel bug in their tanks.
(Back to questions)

Why is the Fuel Mag better than chemicals and biocides?
Biocides are the absolute worst thing to use in your fight against algae and related fuel bugs. The biocide kills the bug and produces a sludge that must then be filtered out of your tank in some fashion. This usually involves a great deal of labor and fuel filters and then guess what? You still have not cured your problem. Remember that algae will always exist in diesel fuel. You cannot get rid of it; only eliminate the negative effects.
(Back to questions)

Will the Fuel Mag get rid of the algae in my tank?
Yes, it will over time. The length of time totally depends on the run time, the size of your fuel tanks and the severity of your algae problem. The fuel returned to the tanks through the fuel return lines possesses “stunned” fuel bugs that stay in a dormant stage in your tank for approximately three weeks, unable to cling to other microorganisms and form clumps and mats. The circulation of fuel bug through the Fuel Mag and back into the tank will gradually replace bad bug with harmless and completely natural microorganisms.
(Back to questions)

Are there special sizing instructions?
No. There is no flow restriction in the unit. Simply match the Fuel Mag to your existing fuel line.
(Back to questions)

Is there any maintenance of the unit?
There is absolutely no maintenance. Remember that the Fuel Mag is not filtering; it is simply producing a magnetic field that the fuel passes through. Any residual buildup in the unit is unsubstantial and has no affect on the unit’s performance.
(Back to questions)

What is the life of the magnets?
The magnets are made from a strontium ferrite material, which, we are informed, has an indefinite life span.
(Back to questions)

Where in the system should I install Fuel Mag?
Your system is already equipped with primary elements of protection against contaminants. What you want Fuel Mag to accomplish is to break down the microbiological contamination to minute components so that it will pass through the filters into the engine and away in the exhaust. So the obvious place to install the Fuel Mag is in the fuel supply from the tank before it enters any filtration or treatment unit.
(Back to questions)

Why should I fit a Fuel Mag to my engine or system?
Well, it depends on the circumstances. If your system is biologically fouled the Fuel Mag will deal with the contamination, clean the system up and keep it clean.
If your system is not contaminated, then the aim is to keep it that way. You never know when you are likely to receive contaminated fuel.
Think of it in terms of your computer. Why do you install a virus protection program?
•To deal with any existing virus contamination.
•To protect your files from any virus that gets down loaded from an external source.
The same principle applies with the installation of Fuel Mag.
•To deal with existing contamination.
•To prevent any introduced bug from making a comfortable home for itself and degrading your engine system.
